Day in the Life: Greensboro Firefighter
Have you ever wanted to ride the big red truck, squirt water from the fire hose, or try on all the firefighter gear? Here’s your chance to experience a day in the life of a firefighter.
You’ll start by reporting for duty with the current Greensboro Fire Department recruit class for PT, followed by a full 24-hour shift at Fire Station 1. You’ll assist with the daily firehouse duties and respond to emergency or medical incidents.
The second part of your “day in the life” will be to spend the day with the recruits learning all the ins-and-outs of training to be a firefighter.
When you’ve completed your “Day in the Life”, you’ll receive a framed plaque, along with a signed photo from the Fire Chief.

About Mayor Perkins: Robbie Perkins was born in Richmond, Virginia and moved to Greensboro after graduating from Duke University with a BA in 1977 and a MBA in 1979. He is President of NAI Piedmont Triad, a commercial real estate brokerage firm with offices in Greensboro and Burlington. Mr. Perkins is serving his first term as Mayor of the City of Greensboro, having served as a district representative from 1993 to 2005, and as an at-large representative from 2007 to 2011. He is currently serving on the Board of Directors of NewBridge Bank, Chairman of the Greensboro Metropolitan Planning Organization, member of the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation, and on the Board of Trustees of Bennett College.

Bio: Cameron has worked for WXII-12 News for 28 years, serving as the
main News Anchor for the last 18 years. He’s been nominated for 12 Emmy
Awards, including best news writer, and won an Emmy for his reporting on
the Pentagon after 9/11. Cameron is also an accomplished
writer, and his credits include the Novel When the Ravens Die, the
children’s novel Make Me Disappear, and four films which have aired on
NBC, HBO, Lifetime, and the American Film Institute. His
most recent novel is entitled The Road to Devotion, which was chosen as
last year’s book for the Forsyth County library “On the Same Page”
